The development of a wind generator to provide energy to isolated areas, is proposed. The zone of Baldecitos, Departamento de Valle Fertil, San Juan Province, Argentina was chosen as a reference area to evaluate the aeolic resource available for the specific demands of the settlement. Measurements obtained and processed over two years determined that the area required the generation of 4 kW. The prototype developed includes a three-bladed rotor to drives the generator, which is able to maintain its output over a broad range of velocities. A control equipment optimizes the generator-load system. The proposed system satisfies the given requirements, based on bench testing, which makes it ready for installation and operation in the study area.
