Abstract
Six different bimetallic catalysts for Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells operating at high temperatures are being proposed (Pt, PtRu, PtSn, PtRh, PtW and PtOs). Results showed that operating on bimetallic catalysts led to an enhancement of the cell performance. PtRh showed an improvement at low current density, which was ascribed to a more efficient alcohol oxidation under those conditions. PtOs outperformed the other catalysts in all the range of current densities, revealing a large turnover rate and efficiency for ethanol oxidation. In the case of the other catalysts, acetaldehyde was the main oxidation product.
