Abstract
The objective of the study was to qualitatively identify the secondary metabolites and to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of Passiflora ligularis, Sambucus peruvianus, Desmodium molliculum, Urtica dioica, Malva silvestris and Lomatia ligularis on Escherichia coli and Pseudomona aureginosa, responsible for urinary and puerperal infections. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of steroids, flavonoids, tannins, and anthocyanins in most plants. The alcoholic extracts of Sambucus peruvianus and Lomatia ligularis showed a certain antibacterial effect on Pseudomona aureginosa; but the inhibition of the growth Escherichia coli was greater with the alcoholic extracts of Desmodium molliculum and Passiflora ligularis.
