Abstract
Second- and higher-order-accurate split-step schemes based on symmetrized propagation-operator techniquesare introduced and discussed. These numerical procedures arecapable of solving the so-called generalizednonlinear Schr6dinger equations that arise in the analysis of the paraxial propagation of transverse electricfields in nonlinear media in the regime of optical frequencies. © 1994 Optical Society of America.
