Abstract
Throughout history, women have played an important role as mothers, wives and members of society, although their presence and contribution was often made invisible. The purpose of this research was to explain the importance of the presence of women throughout the history of mankind; this review article is based on the historical hermeneutic paradigm with a qualitative approach. The study is explanatory; a careful tracking of documentary information was carried out in which the role that women have played in history was addressed. The term under study was investigated, analyzing it through time. The results indicate that the importance that women have had throughout history, is in their human and proper situation of being women, with their particular physical, psychological and emotional characteristics; being a member of a social environment, in which for cultural reasons, many times, their rights were not respected, receiving an unfair treatment.
