Abstract
A case of erythema elevatum diutinum is reported in a 10-year-old girl who presented a disseminated dermatosis involving predominantly the upper and lower extremities, being bilateral and symmetrical. The lesions were characterized by numerous erythematous nodules and plaques of 3 cm. in size, being more notable in the hands, elbows, upper arms, thighs and gluteus. In addition the patient presented episcleritis of the left eye, and history of recurrent skin infections since she was one-year-old. Several months ago, serohemorrhagic blisters were located in the same locations that took of the lesions. An episode of meningoencephalitis by Pneumococcus pneumoniae, resolved completely after antibiotic treatment. Histopathologic examination of two nodules showed features of leucocytoclastic vasculitis. The patient received treatment initially with tetracycline and niacinamide, showing positive effect during the first four weeks, but relapsing at the end of two months. At that moment, sulfones were administered with resolution of the lesions. In our patient almost all clinical manifestations of erythema elevatum diutinum were present.
