The Peruvian Medical Student Scientific Society (SOCIMEP) is a national association of medical students, the most recognized and the oldest in Peru, which has as one of its pillars to promote scientific research. The objective of the present research was to determine the participation of women on SOCIMEP boards of directors. A retrospective cohort study was carried out; the sample consisted of 321 members of the board of directors during the period 1993-2020. To identify the gender of the members, this was categorized as male or female by first names and, in case of doubt, the names and surnames were searched in the web pages of academic, scientific or governmental institutions, as well as on free-access social networks. It was found that women represented 33.60% of managers and that this increased over the years. Likewise, it was observed that the managerial position with the lowest participation of women was presidency (5/28; 17.90%), followed by fiscal (6/21; 22.22%) and CPC (Permanent Scientific Committee: 4/17; 23.53%). On the contrary, the position of secretary was the one with the highest participation of women (16/27; 55.55%). It is concluded that female participation increased over the years; however, this representation within the SOCIMEP is still low.
