Abstract
Solar food processing is gaining interest for income generation. The solar roaster from GRUPO PUCP is designed for rural areas. It consists in a horizontal rotating drum, opened at one end to collect solar radiation from a Scheffler concentrator of 2.7 or 8 m2. The experimental campaigns brought valuable knowledge on the system's operation. Considering the promising results obtained, two initiatives help spread the technology: Acacao Solar is a pilot plant for cacao paste production and Compadre is a startup which enable small farmers to roast themselves their coffee with the sun.
