Abstract
Cuba is the eighth largest pumpkin in the world, yet its nutritious seeds are wasted in considerable quantities. In order to assess the economic feasibility of the use of pumpkin seed meal in the diets of the birds, located 160 White Leghorn laying hens (Hybrid L-33) for 91 days with 20 reps and 240-Cobb broilers 500 for 49 days, with 3 repetitions, as completely randomized design. Treatments consisted of diets with inclusion levels of 0, 33, 66 and 100 g / kg of pumpkin seed flour, partially or totally replacing soybean meal and vegetable oil imports. We determined the cost of sheet pumpkin seed flour and cost-effective to obtain the final product of the birds. Value is less than a tonne existing raw materials and conventional energy protein. The inclusion of 100 g / kg of pumpkin seed flour reduced the cost of chicken feed at 6.4, 11.16 and 14 USD and in the case of egg on a dime / USD, and the food / t of live weight (chickens) in 35.66, 68.19 and 91.17 USD per ton and 52.29 channel, 100.43 and 119.88 USD. We conclude that the inclusion of pumpkin seed meal in poultry diets, showed economic feasibility for the production of eggs and chicken meat.
