Abstract
Earthquakes are natural disasters produced mainly by the tectonic plate's movements and produce further damages in the population, homes, and cities. Faced with an earthquake, it is necessary to make post-disaster management and make correct decisions. It is essential to analyze the affected area, the level of affectation, and determine the kind of help to be provided. Due to this context, one proposes a methodology to identify the earthquake-affected zones in urban areas using satellite images. Satellite images can provide an overview of the area to be analyzed. The idea is to use data compression techniques that can differentiate, in an image, the areas with fallen buildings from the zones without affectation. This proposal will be a tool to analyze satellite images and identify affected areas faster to have better decision-making in the face of an earthquake.
