Abstract
Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and obesity are prevalent health problems in older men. Objective: the aim of this study is to determine the existence of correlation between waist-hip ratio and the prostatic adenoma weight. Material and Methods: 34 patients were enrolled, measurements of waist and hip circumference were performed before surgery according to the World Health Organization (WHO) protocol and the enucleated prostatic adenoma was weighed in the operating room. Results: the average age of participants was 70 years, the average waist-hip ratio was 0.99, and the average weight of the enucleated adenoma was 54.38 g. Among the variables waist-hip ratio and weight of adenoma inverse correlation was found (r: -0.179), however this correlation is weak (r2: 0.03) and not significant (p: 0.312). Conclusion: no correlation between waist-hip ratio and the weight of prostatic adenoma was found.
